SOMEONE rang the 999 emergency line...because they had been refused entry into a nightclub for wearing shorts.

West Yorkshire Police's Contact Management Centre shared details of the call to highlight the importance of using 999 for emergency calls only.

The team often tweets some of the more unusual phone calls they receive from the general public.

The team said: "We have just taken a call from a male, on our 999 line, who obviously didn't get the dress code Memo for the night out he's on.

"Security at the nightclub refused him entry for wearing shorts. He was given strong words of advice for abusing the 999 line..."

Previous calls to the contact centre have included someone calling 999 to ask them to book some driving lessons for them.
