A MAN took a car without consent, drove it over the limit and damaged a tree at Christmas.

Jimmy Rodgers, 41, of Aireview Crescent in Baildon, Bradford pleaded guilty to three vehicle offences on Monday at North Yorkshire Magistrates' Court.

The offences were: driving a motor vehicle over the drink-drive limit, using a motor vehicle on a road or public place without third party insurance and aggravated vehicle taking and property damage under £5000.

They all related to the same event, just two days before Christmas Day, on December 23 last year.

Rodgers took a Silver Citroen C4 without consent and drove it on Dick Lane, in Cowling, despite being over the limit and not having any insurance for the car.

He then damaged a tree.

A test showed Rodgers had 101 milligrammes (mg) of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

The legal limit is 80mg per 100ml of blood.

The 41-year-old was banned from driving for two years and ordered to pay the court £419.

This includes: £300 in fines, a £34 surcharge to fund victim services and £85 in costs.

It must all be paid within 14 days of the sentencing (August 15) and will be deducted from Rodgers' benefits.
