A DRUG dealer was netted after he was involved in a car crash and the police noticed an obvious smell of cannabis.

Hassan Hussain had 12 wraps of ‘skunk’ in the vehicle with him and £295 in cash, Bradford Crown Court heard today.

He was charged with possession with intent to supply the Class B drug but denied the offence until pleading guilty on the day of his trial.

Hussain, 25, a warehouseman, of Battinson Road, Halifax, was involved in the small-scale sale of cannabis, prosecutor Brian Russell said.

The road traffic accident dated back to December 20, 2019, but the judge, Recorder James Baird, said some of the delay was caused by Hussain ‘trying to wriggle out of it’ by sticking out for a trial.

Mr Russell said that after the crash, Hussain sent a text message asking someone to get rid of the evidence at his home address.

Timothy Jacobs said in mitigation that he did not enlist others to join his drugs operation.

Hussain had now put the regular and consistent use of drugs behind him.

Although Recorder Baird noted that he had pleaded guilty to simple possession of cannabis in January this year, an offence that post-dated the supply charge.

He sentenced Hussain to 12 months imprisonment, suspended for two years, with 150 hours of unpaid work.

He must attend up to ten rehabilitation activity days and pay £500 costs.
