FLORAL tributes have been left at the scene of a double fatal crash near Bradford city centre.

The incident took place at about 11.30pm on Sunday when an Audi SQ5 collided with a wall on Dryden Street.

It appeared the driver had failed to negotiate a left-hand turn, West Yorkshire Police said.

The driver and a passenger - named locally as 24-year-olds Mohammed Azad Khan and Arsalan Baig – died from fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

A third male was also taken to hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.

People across the Bradford district have shared messages and prayers in the Telegraph & Argus’ Book of Condolence.

Meanwhile, bouquets of flowers have been placed by the wall, carefully tucked between bricks and foliage.

One said: “RIP lads. Arsalan was a very humble guy may allah give them both the highest ranks of paradise inshallah.”

Shannon Griffiths said: “You'll both be missed RIP lads from Shann and Shauni.”

Another said: “Great people, so sad to see them go so soon.”

Speaking on the Dryden Street crash, Imran Hussain, MP for Bradford East said: “This is of course an immensely tragic incident, and the deaths of these two much-loved young men who had so much promise and had their whole lives ahead of them, in what are absolutely horrific circumstances, has sent shockwaves through a community that has been left in a state of shock and mourning.

“No parent should ever have to bury their child and should never have to do so when they’re so young, and my thoughts and prayers go out to both boys’ family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

“Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and I urge anyone who has any information, or was on or near Dryden Street on Saturday night, to get in touch with West Yorkshire Police.”

West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Enquiry Team (MCET) would like to speak to anyone who saw or has dashcam footage of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact MCET by calling the 101 line or using the online web chat via www.westyorkshire.police.uk/101LiveChat

The log reference number for this incident is 13220416812.

In the latest update from police, DS Fiona Allan, of the MCET, said: “A number of enquiries remain ongoing today into this clearly very serious collision which has sadly resulted in a young man losing his life.

“The Audi had been travelling along Dryden Street away from Shipley Airedale Road when the crash occurred, and we are keen to speak with anyone who saw the car in the moments before the collision or the crash itself.”

Many people have been mourning the loss of such young lives, with one adding: “Young lives lost again so sad.”

One tribute, left under the name of Israr, said: “Inna illahi wa inna illayhi rajoon. More young lives lost. It’s so sad.”

S R Hassan said: “Two more precious lives lost at such a young age, ‘to Allah we belong and to Allah we shall return’ may Allah bless your final journey with recognition and intercession of Allah’s beloved (saw) and give your family patience to deal with your loss.”

Smera Bostan said: “May Allah grant to both the highest rank in Jannah Ameen. Sabah to the families.”

Mohammad Banan said: “May Allah swt grant you Jannat ul Firdus and grant all your immediate family members patience and allow us all to prepare for our deaths.”

It comes after Councillor Nazam Azam (Labour, City) said too many families in Bradford are facing the “utter devastation and trauma” caused by fatal accidents.

“Too many young lives are being lost,” he told the Telegraph & Argus.

“Too many families are going through utter devastation and trauma which is avoidable.

“You cannot begin to imagine the devastation that the families and the friends and loved ones of those involved in this incident will be going through now.

“It is unimaginable the devastation caused to the families in such incidents.

“Families are having to grieve losses such as these that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

“Such incidents are something that we need to tackle in this district.”
