AN application to extend and refurbish a Bradford supermarket next to an iconic Bradford mill has been approved.

Park Bazaar on Lilycroft Road lies in the shadow of Grade II-listed Lister Mills, and opposite another Grade II-listed building, Lilycroft Primary School.

A planning application submitted by T Hussain called for an extension to allow a better stock room for the business, as well as an improved frontage.

It goes on to say the changes will “allow greater choice and improved service with the proposed new improved frontage aimed to attract more customers and prove an attractive addition to the street scene".

The application has now been approved by Bradford Council.

Planning officers said it will “provide a design that will enhance the appearance of this property and maintain the character of the conservation area.”

The building was formerly used as The Plush Silk and Textile Club, better known as The Pile Bar.
