THE former leader of Bradford Council said it was “unacceptable” that a report a Council committee asked for will not be presented until a year after it was requested.

Councillor Dave Green (Lab, Wibsey) sites on the Council’s Corporate Scrutiny Committee. In October last year, the Committee asked Council officers to provide a report into the Stonewall Quality Standard, which the Council had recently signed up to.

The standard measures organisations’ progress on lesbian, gay, bi and trans inclusion in the workplace.

Members wanted the report to detail how agreeing to the standard would benefit the people of Bradford, and what the cost implications were.

At the last meeting of the Committee last month, members were told this report would not be presented until a planned October meeting, and even then it would be tied in with a separate report on equalities.

Cllr Green said: “We’ll get this report a year after we asked for it. That is unacceptable. Officers need to take the decisions of scrutiny committees seriously.

“If we ask for a report, we don’t expect it to come a year later.”

He said the committee should write to the leader of the Council demanding officers respond to scrutiny committee requests in a timely manner.
