THE Labour Party has chosen their candidate for Shipley at the next general election

Anna Dixon was chosen by local Labour members at a selection meeting on Sunday, July 31.

Anna, who grew up in West Yorkshire, has worked as a senior civil servant and leader of a national charity.

She was endorsed by trade union USDAW, Community and the Co-operative Party, and a number of local councillors.

Anna said: “A huge thank you to the local members for selecting me as the Labour candidate for Shipley. It is a privilege, and I will work hard every day to give the people of Shipley an MP who will fight for this brilliant place.

“Shipley has been let down by 12 years of Conservative rule, which has destroyed our public services, failed to grow the economy and decreased our living standards. Shipley needs a Labour MP, and this country needs a Labour government. I will work tirelessly to make that happen and bring the fresh start this country deserves.”

At the last election, held in December 2019, Philip Davies held the Shipley seat with 27,437 votes. Labour’s candidate Jo Pike got 21,195 votes, while Liberal Democrat candidate Caroline Jones got 3,188. The Green Party’s Celia Hicks secured 1,301 and The Yorkshire Party’s Darren Longhorn scooped up 883 votes.
