A NEW Tesco convenience store in the Bradford district is set to open in the autumn.

The supermarket chain is due to open a store on Saltaire Road, Shipley, in September, it has been confirmed.

Building work on the new store is underway, with the steel structure already in place and the roof work completed and front windows installed.

The Tesco store will replace the since demolished Northcliffe Garage, near the border between Saltaire and Shipley.

Plans for the store were approved by Bradford Council last year.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “We’re pleased to say our plans for a new express store in Shipley are moving forwards and we hope to open in September.

“We look forward to serving the local community.”

Tesco’s planning application included a proposal to demolish the vacant garage site and build a 320sqm shop with 10 car parking spaces and six cycle parking spaces in its place. The plans were submitted by Rashid Moghul.

It is the second convenience store currently being built in Saltaire.

Work is progressing to make way for a new Co-op store on Bingley Road, on the site of a car wash, which shut earlier this year. The new store’s steel structure has been installed.
