A ‘third strike’ drug dealer has been jailed for seven years after he was caught with crack cocaine in his bedroom and then a further amount of the drug in a Mercedes car.

In December 2020, the police executed a search warrant at Mohammed Umar Imran’s home and found just over £10,000 worth of the drug in a bag hung up in his bedroom.

After that arrest, cocaine addict Imran claimed the drugs were for himself and two friends, but while he was still under investigation he was caught in February 2021 with 19 wraps of crack cocaine and ten wraps of heroin in a car on Bingley Road in Bradford.

Bradford Crown Court heard today that during his police interview for those offences Imran said he was in a lot of debt.

The court heard that 33-year-old Imran, of Spring Bank Place, Manningham, Bradford, had previous convictions, including possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

That meant that his admissions to the latest offences made him eligible for a seven-year minimum jail term.

Barrister Stephen Uttley said his client was one of those addicts used by others to ped-dle drugs.

He told the court that Imran had been addicted to cocaine for 11 years.

Mr Uttley pointed out that his client had not been involved in any further offending since his arrest in February last year and he had taken steps to sort out his addiction.

Recorder Simon Myerson QC said he accepted that Imran’s addiction was the result of a series of traumatic events and he was prepared to keep the jail term to the minimum of seven years.

“I hope that as Mr Uttley says the period of incarceration at least provides you with an opportunity to break the addiction,” he told Imran.
