POLICE say they are cracking down on the plague of anti-social driving and quad bikes in the Allerton area.

One man told the Telegraph & Argus that the busy Allerton Road and surrounding streets are used as a “racetrack”.

The resident, who has Multiple Sclerosis, called for more action and described the issue as “really dangerous”.

He said: “People drive around here at high speeds and use Allerton Road and the surrounding streets as a racetrack.

“It’s as if we’re waiting for a child to be knocked over before something is done.

“The way these quad bikes are being driven is a joke and there are kids hanging off the back of them.”

West Yorkshire Police said they are aware of the issues and work is ongoing to find those responsible.

Inspector David Collyer of Bradford West’s Neighbourhood Policing team said: “My officers along with Operation Steerside and the Roads Policing Unit carry out frequent, targeted patrols in the area.

“As part of anti-social behaviour week, a day of action was carried out on Saturday, July 23.

“Twelve traffic offences were reported, one driver was reported for summons for driving whilst disqualified and the vehicle was seized.

“We are following up from intelligence received over the weekend to tackle the issue of nuisance bikes and further operations will be carried out in the area.

“I would like to ask anyone in the community who has any knowledge of these people riding the off roads bikes to come forward with information. We will deal with the information sensitively.

“We are also looking for any CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage that can help us tackle the issue of nuisance quad bikes.

“We are fully aware of the impact this type of anti-social behaviour has on residents living in the area.”

Bradford West MP Naz Shah thanked the force for its action and said she’d raised concerns about anti-social driving in the area from her own personal experience and those of her constituents.

“I’m grateful for the response and the focussed activity in the area,” she said.

“People need to understand that it’s not okay to drive like this anywhere and will face the full force of the law.”

It was announced this week that a funding boost secured by West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin will see £500,000 go towards tackling anti-social behaviour and misuse of quad bikes and motorbikes in residential areas of the region, as well as parks and open spaces.
