A 23-YEAR-old banned driver was caught behind the wheel of an Audi A3 driving dangerously in Bradford.

Zeeshan Hussain, of Upper Woodlands Road, Bradford, was sentenced to four months imprisonment, suspended for 18 months.

Bradford Crown Court heard how police wanted to carry out a routine search, when Hussain evaded them in March this year.

He drove on Midland Road, Carlisle Road, Toller Lane, Wibsey Lane and Whetley Lane, before damaging his car on potholes in a side street and being forced to a stop.

His dangerous driving involved driving through give way signs and running a red light.

Prosecutor Paul Walker said Hussain jumped into the back of the car and tried to pass himself off as a passenger. But others in the car identified him as the driver to police officers.

In mitigation, the court heard: “He realises the potentially fatal impact of his driving, had there been an accident.”

Judge Colin Burn said in sentencing: “Because you were disqualified from driving you decided it was essential you were not caught by the police in the driver’s side of the vehicle, so you made a very foolish decision to try and get away from the police car.”

He must carry out 180 hours of unpaid work and has been banned from driving for one year.
