A YOUNG man from Bradford has made his company proud by winning a national apprentice of the year competition.

Harry Davies, 19, works for LDC decorating company in Halifax and was awarded this year apprentice of the year at a national painter decorator awards night.

The young man from Low Moor, competed alongside 16 other people in the heats and was selected as a finalist after presenting his drawing, designs and techniques he would use.

Harry said: “I feel really good.

“I was a bit surprised when they called my name out.

“I didn’t really expect it but I’m very happy with the award.”

The awards ceremony was held in London.

Katy Clay, who owns the company with her partner said: “It’s fantastic. He’s a young achiever.

“There’s something really special about Harry.

Ms Clay was extremely proud of Harry’s success, highlighting how naturally he picked up the skills and his positive work ethic.

“When he came into the role, he wasn’t sure if it’s what he wanted to do but he’s done really well.

“We’ve had other apprentices but none like Harry.

“Him winning the award has put our name on the map.

“It’s an incredible achievement for him and for us.”
