BRADFORD is in the grip of a heatwave - bringing back memories for those who experienced the summer of 1976.

In August of that year the T&A reported that standpipes were likely to be put up in Bradford, Keighley and Skipton, and tighter restrictions would be imposed to help conserve falling water stocks.

The was to be a complete ban on washing vehicles and buildings, and mechanical car washes would close.

We're also looking back to the hot dry summer of 1995, when cracks appeared in reservoirs and people were banned from washing cars and buildings.
