EXCITEMENT is building for City's League Two opener against Doncaster at Valley Parade on July 30, and the City Vent boys are putting together a grand display fit for the occasion.

The Bantams-themed podcast has reached an agreement with the club to produce an 18m x 10m flag to fly in the Kop for Donny's visit, as well as claret and amber cards on each seat to create a vertical-striped tifo across the stand.

The idea has even captured the imagination of new Bantams stopper Harry Lewis, who donated £100 to the cause.

The flag contains six of City's greatest names, in Jimmy Speirs, Ces Podd, Bobby Campbell, Stuart McCall, Gary Jones and Stephen Darby.

City Vent founder Adam Williams, who hails from Horton Bank Top, said: "There was a big tifo in the Kop in 2015 for the FA Cup game against Sunderland that James Mason organised, and that was a successful display.

"It looks good, the fans enjoy it as it brings them together, and I know it sounds a bit daft, but for a club of our size, this kind of thing can intimidate the opposition, that show of strength in the crowd.

"One of my best mates is a Newcastle fan, and seeing what they (Wor Flags) did last season was an inspiration for this."

Talking about displays in the long-term, Williams said: "It is new to City, as they've never had a flag floating in the crowd before.

"The club are obviously big on health and safety and we don't want to upset anyone, if they get claustrophobic or anything like that, so we'll see how that first game goes.

"We're hoping to have the legends flag at every home game post-Doncaster, if not the tifo, as that takes a lot more time and money."

The flag was chosen after a vote, with the legends concept just pipping a Bradford boar design to victory, though the latter is still being made available as one of a handful of 5ft x 3ft creations for fans to buy.

Williams said: "I was panicking a bit when the boar was catching up in the vote, because while it was a fan thing, I just felt the legends design was miles ahead of the rest.

"I just think it resonates with all age groups, people like my father and grandfather who remember watching Ces Podd and Bobby Campbell, then younger fans who recall Gary Jones and Stephen Darby."

The first episode of the City Vent podcast, which Williams co-hosts alongside Chris Windsor, was only released on May 30, but it is already going from strength to strength.

Williams said: "The podcast was born out of Twitter Spaces, which we started doing when Derek Adams was still in charge.

"That's where the name City Vent comes from, as it was us venting at the goings on at the club at that time.

"And since we started the podcast we've been really successful. We have about 2,000 Twitter followers and we've had the likes of Ryan Sparks and (Peterborough chairman) Darragh MacAnthony on.

"We're hoping to get City's players and staff on as the season progresses, and while it's important for us to have that relationship with the club that we've built, it's always going to be our own views on the podcast, as we are fans of the club at the end of the day."

It is not all about football for Williams and Windsor though, with the former detailing their focus on mental health.

He said: "Chris' job has a lot to do with that line of work and it means something to all of the guys that work on the podcast.

"I'm conscious that it's a big deal for men around my age (29), and something we've almost all been affected by in some way.

"We did a Twitter Space around the topic the other day, and from this weekend (a walk at Penistone Mews), we're looking to host walks each Sunday, with it being the day after a game.

"Obviously we want to encourage people to refer to professional help if they need it, but these walks can just act as a place to talk and open up."
