WEST YORKSHIRE Fire & Rescue Service say there is no need to be alarmed after a cloud of smoke was seen around The Broadway this morning.
Shocked visitors to Bradford city centre thought that, from a distance, the shopping centre was on fire, but fire crews are actually carrying out a training exercise in the car park.
A spokesperson from Bradford Fire Station said that the smoke was fake and likley generated by a smoke machine.
Crews started their training exercise at The Broadway at 8.30am today and are there until 11am.
People are being told not to panic if they see firefighters in the area.
The Bradford Fire Station spokesperson added: “Firefighters are doing a training exercise, they must be using a smoke generator.
“We have not been called out to any actual incidents in the area and there's nothing to be worried about.
“If there was a real fire, we would know about it.”
