A MOTORCYLIST has died following a collision in Calderdale this morning.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the incident, which happened in the village of Rishworth at around 7.35am

Officers received a report of a collision involving a motorbike and a van at the junction of the A672 and the slip road of the M62 Eastbound at Junction 22.

Emergency services attended and found that the motorcyclist, a 36-year-old man, had suffered serious injuries.

He sadly passed away at the scene.

The driver of the van, a 31-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He remains in custody at this time.

The motorbike was a black Royal Enfield Himalayan, and the van was a white Mercedes Sprinter.

The Major Collision Enquiry Team is investigating the collision and is appealing for anyone who witnessed it, or who saw what happened immediately prior to it, to contact them on 101, or by using the LiveChat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website.

Road closures remain in place while enquiries continue into the collision, and motorists are being advised to use alternative routes where possible.
