EACH of the Bradford district’s doctors’ surgeries have been ranked in the latest GP Patient Survey.

The annual survey reveals how patients feel about the service at their GP practice.

This includes the ease of being able to secure an appointment, the quality of service provided by doctors and surgery staff, and patients’ experiences during appointments.

The Springfield Surgery, Bingley, was named the best GP practice with 91 per cent of patients having a 'good overall experience'.

Bingley Medical Practice ranked in second place (88 per cent) while Baildon Medical Practice came third (85 per cent).

Patients rate Bradford's GP practices

Dr Sohail Abbas, GP and director for the Reducing Inequalities Alliance at Bradford District and Craven Health and Care Partnership, said the survey provided “valuable information” for health chiefs and practices.

Dr Abbas said: “We welcome the results of the 2022 GP Patient Survey which provides valuable information on patients’ overall experience of primary care and how they access these services.

“As well as results from the GP Patient Survey, we gather insight from our local communities and patient groups, using this feedback to develop services.

“We acknowledge the variation in patient experience across Bradford District and Craven and are working hard to address these inequalities and frustrations.

“Over the last couple of years we have made fantastic progress in making use of digital technology to improve access for patients.

“We have also expanded our GP practice teams to make sure that our patients get the right help from the right person first time, which may not always be a GP. People may now be seen by a member of our multidisciplinary team which may be a physiotherapist, social prescriber or a pharmacist, for example.

He added: “We really do not want people to be discouraged from getting in touch with their GP practice when they need help, especially where they have signs or symptoms of something which could be more serious. Getting in touch with your GP practice and early diagnosis is really important. We are here to help.”

The partnership has urged people to make sure they are using the right service for their needs.

People can visit their pharmacy for face-to-face advice on a range of minor illnesses, such as hay fever or sunburn, or use the NHS 111 line and website.

'Too many excuses not to see patients face to face'

It comes after T&A readers shared their views on access to GP services in Bradford.

Margaret Howard said: “My surgery is a joke, like all the other comments on here it’s impossible to have a face to face appointment unless it’s with a nurse.

“GP’s obviously have super powers to diagnose down the phone. Something should be done to address the problems patients experience.”

Asim Rashid said: “Too many excuses not to see patients face to face.”

Barry Collins said: “I once spent one hour and 40 mins on the phone, crawling up the queue until someone answered and said there were no appointments left. It's also impossible to get an appointment for the following day or a couple of days ahead.”

Lisa Holt added: “Can never get through, always engaged at 8.15am. I have tried to call 100 times once before I got through in the morning, absolute joke. Now I avoid the doctors if I can just buy what I need myself much easier.”
