A MAN has been arrested following the violent disorder that erupted on Bradford's biggest estate yesterday.
The huge disturbance, which police say appeared to be between two groups, occurred on Sandmede Close in Holme Wood on Thursday afternoon.
As of Friday lunchtime, the 47-year-old remains in police custody.
Online footage shows masked youths on quad bikes, people charging towards a house across some grassland, and a wheelie bin being hurled at someone at point blank range.
Once the crowd had been dispersed, a parade of police officers can be seen swarming the scene.
The disorder forced rare stop and search powers to be put in place on the estate from 1.20pm on Thursday until 8am this morning.
The Force add that there were no further issues after the use of Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, which gives officers the right to search people or vehicles for offensive weapons.
The order covered an area bounded by Tong Street, Westgate Hill Street, New Lane, Raikes Lane, Holme Lane, Ned Lane, Tyersal Lane, Parsonage Road, Dick Lane, Cutler Heights Lane, Sticker Lane and Tong Street.
The Force says they will not tolerate disorder amongst communities and have stepped up patrols to ensure this does not happen in the future.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Farrell, of Bradford District CID, said: “This incident appears to be targeted between two groups, we will not tolerate any disorder in our communities.
“I would like to reassure the community that we have stepped up patrols in the area and we are doing everything we can to keep the area safe. We will continue to take robust action should we find anyone else involved.
“I would urge people not to engage in anti-social behaviour, we will and have taken positive action to identify those responsible.
“Finally, I would like to appeal to the community if they have any information about this incident to come forward and help us with our investigation.”
Ward Councillor Matt Edwards (Green, Tong) said most people in Holme Wood are "sick and tired" of a "small number of idiots terrorising everyone else".
He added: “The incident close to The Parade was absolutely appalling."
