AFTER months of preparation, refugees and asylum seekers in the New Dawn project will pitch their business ideas to investors in a Dragon's Den-style event.

The entrepreneurship programme was launched in late January 2022, and now those participating will be given the opportunity to pitch their business models and win £60,000 of seed funding.

The initiative ‘New Dawn’ is a partnership between Mercy Mission, The University of Bradford , and the National Zakat Foundation.

Those involved in the programme will work with mentors from Bradford, such as MyLahore, Regal Food Products PLC and Kunafa Tea, to see how they built their businesses.

The participants in the programme come from a range of countries including Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, Iraq, Sudan and have a variety of backgrounds including engineering, forensic science, pharmacology, teaching, community work, accountancy, athletics and dentistry.

This project is a partnership between The University of Bradford, Mercy Mission and National Zakat Foundation (NZF).

The final will be held on Friday, July 22 at The University of Bradford.
