A BELOVED family pet has gone missing from a Bradford home and the distressed owner is offering a cash reward if the bird is found.

The pet, a myna bird, is named Huda and belongs to Mizan Elahie, his wife and two children who live near Feversham Primary Academy in Barkerend.

Mr Elahie explained that Huda went missing at around 12.30pm on Tuesday when he went to feed the bird her favourite food papaya.

"I left the cage door open when I went to the fridge to get some papaya. But I didn't release the kitchen door was open. It flew into the conservatory and out a window.

"I could have tried and grabbed her but I didn't want to hurt her."

"My family members are very much in distress," said Mr Elahie, who added that his family is offering a generous cash reward if the Huda is found.

"We could go buy another pet bird, a parrot or a myna, and yes we are offering a cash reward, but it's not about the money - this is more of an emotional thing.

"Huda is very close to my wife and daughter, and when I went to pick up my son from school the other day and I told him the bad news, he started crying and was in floods of tears."

Mr Elahie said Huda is about one-year-old and although the family has had her only a few months, she is very special to them.

He said: "She's only just learned to say 'hello' in a very clear voice. That's the only word she knows."

Mr Elahie said his family is very worried about Huda and he believes she could very well be in the Barkerend area.

"The experts say she should be in the locality, less than one mile from home, because she wouldn't have the stamina to fly far away.

"When she flew out, she flew over our neighbours' gardens, saw three birds coming and started flying back towards us.

"We thought she was coming back but then she flew high over Feversham Primary Academy and towards Marie Curie Hospital."

Huda is a myna bird, which has distinctive yellow marking around its eyes and looks similar to a blackbird but is actually a member of the starling family.

Anyone who has seen Huda, do not try catch or touch the bird who could fly away, but contact Mr Elahie immediately on 07903 898047.
