THERE has been outrage after a much-used children's play area was torched over the weekend.

Councillors in Windhill and Wrose said they were "outraged" at the attack, which happened at the Wrose Play and Recreational Ground.

Police are now appealing for information.

A post on the councillors' Facebook page said: "We are absolutely gutted that last night youths thought it was a good idea to burn this much-used children’s playground swing.

"Budgets for play areas are hard-fought for, and the equipment is incredibly expensive to install.

"We’ve asked the Parks Dept if they can clean all the ash and melted/burnt rubber away. West Yorkshire Police have also been informed."

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw "We're outraged at this mindless destruction of such well-used community play facilities. Not only has it taken away facilities from families in Wrose it could have seriously hurt someone.

"We've asked officers to clear the site and we'll work with them to see if replacement swings can be provided."

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Police are investigating criminal damage at Wrose Play and Recreational Park.

"It happened sometime between 5pm and 10am on July 10 and 11.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
