SOMEONE rang the 999 emergency line...to ask for the time.

West Yorkshire Police's Contact Management Centre shared details of the call to highlight the importance of using 999 for emergency calls only.

The team often tweets some of the more unusual calls they receive from the general public.

The force receives 120 inappropriate calls each day, and posts them on social media as part of its #Not999 campaign.

In its latest example, the team said: " Ringing up on 999 and asking for the time is definitely NOT a 999 call! #Not999!”

Previous calls to the contact centre have included someone ringing up and pretending to order pizza, then laughing with their friends on the call. The police tweeted: β€œIt is NOT funny and it's definitely NOT clever.”
