A WOMAN has avoided jail for assaulting a police officer in a Bradford shopping centre.

Iqra Rani, 20, of Tanton Crescent, Bradford, faced a number of charges.

She was committed to prison for six weeks, suspended for 12 months, for assault by beating of an emergency worker, namely a police constable. This offence took place at The Broadway, Bradford, on September 25, 2021. She was also ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge, £100 costs and £50 compensation. A collection order was made by the court.

Rani was committed to prison for two weeks, suspended for 12 months, to run consecutively, for failing to surrender to police/court bail at the appointed time. This offence took place on July 5, 2022.

She was also re-sentenced for an offence of assaulting an emergency worker on January 10, 2022. Rani was committed to prison for four weeks, suspended for 12 months, to run consecutively.

Rani was re-sentenced for a further charge of assaulting an emergency worker. She was committed to prison for four weeks, suspended for 12 months, to run concurrently. This offence also took place on January 10, 2022.

Rani pleaded guilty to all of the charges and was sentenced at Bradford & Keighley Magistrates’ Court on July 6, 2022.
