A MOTORBIKE rider has been hospitalised today after suffering injuries in a serious crash that closed a major road between Bolton Abbey and Skipton.

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "We were called this afternoon to reports of a car and motorbike in collision two miles west of Bolton Abbey on the A59."

The spokesperson confirmed that the motorbike rider was conveyed by ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary.

Earlier this afternoon, the North Yorkshire Police tweeted: "Officers at the scene of a road traffic collision on the A59 between Bolton Abbey and Skipton."

The road had to be closed in both directions while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

However, in the last 15 minutes, the North Yorkshire Police confirmed that the road is now reopened.
