ANYONE from Yorkshire heading to the east coast this afternoon could face delays after a broken down lorry is causing tailbacks on the A64.

About a hour ago, National Highways: Yorkshire: "Work is ongoing on the A64 eastbound to repair the heavy load. Following the puncture on this lorry the airlines were damaged so the brakes are locked on meaning we unfortunately cannot move it. This is causing significant delays on people heading towards the east coast."

While delays were at 20 minutes and congestion saw three miles of tailbacks at one point, National Highways: Yorkshire just tweeted: "Lane 1 remains closed on the A64 eastbound between A659 near Tadcaster and A1237 near York due to a broken down HGV.

"Tyre fitter now on scene. There are currently delays of 15 minutes and approximately two miles of congestion."
