The Festival of Archaeology, the UK’s biggest annual celebration of archaeology, will return this summer to Bradford, in partnership with Bradford Museums this July.

The festival, which incorporates hundreds of in-person and virtual events around the UK, encourages its audience to discover the places and archaeology around them.

This year’s theme Journeys, will flow throughout the 2022 festival, with Bradford Industrial Museum, on Moorside Road in Eccleshill, hosting two events during the festival themed around “Marvelous Metals”.

The first day is aimed at young people aged 11 to 16, while the second day is an event for youth leaders.

Participants will take part in activities delivered by AncientCraft, who work to educate and reconnect audiences with prehistoric heritage and The Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) from The British Museum.

The festival wants to encourage as many people as possible to attend their events, and those who are interested can apply for a £20 travel bursary and will receive a free lunch.

The Council for British Archaeology (CBA), who host the Festival, is expected to engage with over half a million people during the two-week period, and are hoping to beat their 2020 record of 505 events across the UK.
