Nicola was diagnosed with cancer in October 2018 and sadly died the following May.

“She was an incredibly well-liked, passionate, and committed member of our club, captaining the 2nd team in her most recent years at the club,” said secretary Fay Allen.

She added: “As a club we were really keen to get these events back on following the pandemic. We were delighted to be able to do this, this year, and continue to raise vital funds for Cancer Research.

“The mixed tournament and memorial match are held in memory of Nicola, who was a truly amazing friend, teammate and club member, and they are now a firm part of her legacy at the club.

“We have once again, been overwhelmed by the incredible support from everyone involved, from volunteers at our club, to all teams that entered, and the spirit of the Leeds Met Uni team at the memorial match.

"Nicola would have loved both events. I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in making these events such a success, we have already had questions about next year.”

The events raised a total of £2,300 for Cancer Research UK.
