A 14-year-old boy was allegedly hit in the face by a supply teacher amid a seemingly light-hearted classroom conversation about strength.

The teenager said it was done with such force that his glasses were knocked from his face.

A hospital assessment found he had a suspected fracture, leaving his mum aghast.

The Keighley secondary school said the teacher is no longer associated with them, while West Yorkshire Police said the force is investigating the matter.

They were due to speak with the teen yesterday (Wednesday).

The boy’s mum Louise Dunn, 40, has spoken out over the incident and told the Telegraph & Argus: “I don’t send my kid to school to be assaulted to the extent where he’s got a suspected fractured nose.”

Her son Logan is a pupil at Beckfoot Oakbank and the incident unfolded on the afternoon of June 10.

Louise said she received a call from a teacher at the school saying there had been an accusation against a teacher and it involved her son.

She was told he had been “bopped” on the nose by a teacher.

Louise said: “I just thought, bopped on the nose, he’s been joking or done it accidentally.”

But when her son arrived home from school, she was taken aback by what she saw.

“When I saw Logan, I was shocked. I looked at him, his nose was just massive.

"I said ‘what’s happened?’. He went ‘I’ve been punched by a teacher’.”

Logan’s dad took him to the hospital, where he was told he had a suspected fractured nose.

The teenager, a Year 9 pupil, was asked to write a statement about the incident and said he was “minding his own business” in class when he heard a conversation about strength.

He said he joined in and said “all my strength is here” and did a punch, hitting his hand and joking with his friends.

Logan claimed the teacher then said: “That wasn’t even a good punch, do you want me to show you a good punch?”

The teen said before he could answer, the teacher punched him with “a lot of strength” and knocked the glasses off his head.

He said “…that really hurt my nose so I was so shocked I didn’t know what to say and just went to my next lesson, but I was nervously laughing and embarrassed because my friends was there and watched it happen, so I walked in my next lesson laughing because I was nervous and got sent out instantly because I was laughing.”

Louise reported the incident to West Yorkshire Police and said there has been a lack of communication from the school.

She spoke of her concern at sending her child to school when basically he’s been punched by an adult”.

A spokesperson for Beckfoot Oakbank said: “The safety and wellbeing of our students is our number one priority. Following an incident, the school has completed all relevant actions, in line with ours and the Department for Education’s safeguarding statutory guidance.

“We are working with the relevant authorities to support their investigations fully.

“The member of staff involved was a supply teacher and is no longer associated with the school. We cannot comment any further due to the ongoing investigation but will continue to support those impacted.”

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police added: “We are working with the school to investigate this matter and will provide an update to the parent in due course.”

Louise said: “I just think people need to be aware of what’s happened.”

Bradford Council confirmed the incident has been referred to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO), as is required in such circumstances. The LADO manages allegations against adults working in a position of trust with children.

The Telegraph & Argus has made extensive efforts to confirm the identity of the teacher so he could be approached for comment but has been unable to do so.
