ALMOST 200 bales of hay caught fire in the early hours of this morning in a field at Denholme in a blaze which is expected to burn all day.

Five stations were called to the hay bale fire at 1.46am today at Ten Yards Lane in Denholme.

Appliances from Fairweather Green, Bingley, Shipley and Bradford fire stations attended and a hose layer and support pump came from Mirfield.

A spokesperson from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Approximately 150 to 200 bales of hay were involved in fire.

"Residents of Thornton are advised to keep doors and windows closed as the smoke plume is heading in that direction.

"The fire is expected to burn all day.

"One ground monitor and two large jets were used."
