A BOLD project which aims to transform Otley into a safer and healthier environment to walk and cycle is entering its second stage.

In April Otley Town Council asked residents, businesses and visitors to take part in an online survey as part of its Street Vision 2030 project.

Now the town council is to hold an engagement event to share some initial design ideas and it wants to hear the views of residents and organisation on the proposed improvements.

A drop-in event is to be held on Tuesday, July 12th, 2022 at Otley Core from 11am to 8pm.

An Otley Town Council spokesperson said: "This will look at how to make Otley a better place to walk, cycle and spend time in. This follows the Stage 1 online consultation which took place in April 2022 which shared some initial design ideas with local people. Feedback from this has been reviewed and the key findings will form part of this event.

"Otley Town Council are hoping to make some shorter-term improvements to Otley Town Centre, in order to kick off the delivery of Street Vision. This event is about getting your thoughts on proposed improvements by using local knowledge and your ideas to shape the longer-term vision for Otley.

"Come along to find out more about the findings from the Stage 1 consultation, the proposed improvements such as footpath widening, new street furniture and inset parking bays, traffic calming, improved pedestrian crossings, continuous footways and Play Streets and to have your say on Otley Street Vision.

"Otley Town Council are working with leading transport planning and urban design consultants, PJA on the Street Vision project, and members of the PJA team will be on hand to answer your questions and note your ideas."

Cllr Richard Hughes, the Chair of Otley Town Council, added: "The consultation in April rounded out the comments and ideas the Council had previously received; we were delighted that 669 people participated and at the level of support for Street Vision 2030. The public meeting on the 12th July is an important next step as it will help direct the Council to the specific actions to take over the next two years to make Otley a safer and more pleasant place to stroll, cycle, wheel, and shop."
