A MAN caught tending a cannabis farm in Shipley has been remanded back into custody and warned by the judge that he could make no promises that he wouldn’t be jailed.

Angelo Zumpa, 24, a Greek national, was arrested on May 4 at the grow in Aireville Road.

Today, he appeared before Bradford Crown Court on a video link to HMP Leeds to plead guilty to production of cannabis.

His solicitor advocate, Nicholas Leadbeater, asked the court to adjourn sentence for a probation report.

He said Zumpa was legally in the country and had no previous convictions.

His client had admitted the charge on the basis that he was acting as a gardener at the cannabis farm.

Mr Leadbeater wanted the report to explore alternatives to an immediate prison sen-tence.

Abdul Shakoor, prosecuting, said the Crown did not challenge the basis of plea unless two phones seized from the address refuted Zumpa’s claim of a lesser role in the drugs operation.

Judge Andrew Hatton adjourned the case until August 11.
