POLICE have thanked residents for playing their part in a long weekend of fun in Huddersfield.

Huddersfield Neighbourhood Policing Team said officers had not recorded a single incident during the busy weekend of street parties and carnivals.

Officers had a presence at a number of events from Friday to Sunday, including the Lindley Street Party, Lindley 10K and Deighton Carnival.

They spoke about community issues with local people at the carnival, and children were able to dress up in police uniforms and have a tour around police vehicles.

The team also attended Ravensknowle Park for the annual gala on Sunday and again spoke with residents and young people.

Police also engaged with those who passed through the town centre for the Green Day concert, which was attended by 33,500 people at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.

Insp Graham Dyson, of Huddersfield NPT, said: “It was really pleasing to see thousands enjoying the weekend across the town.

“We had no calls regarding incidents, which is a testament to the efforts that the organisers put in.

“These events really showcase the work that goes on in our communities, highlighting what a great community we live in.

“This allows officers to engage and talk to people on a really informal basis, and builds trust within our communities.”
