A MAJOR Bradford road is still closed this morning causing heavy traffic.

Rooley Lane Northbound has been shut since yesterday afternoon.

This is because emergency water main repairs are taking place between M606 J3 (Staygate Roundabout) and Bierley Lane (Bierley Roundabout).

This comes after a burst water main south of the city centre.

There is congestion all the way to the M62 (Chain Bar) with delays along the M6.

As of this morning, Yorkshire Water says the burst main has been repaired and they will be completing the reinstatement of the road as soon as possible.

They add that they are working hard to keep the disruption to a minimum.

Yorkshire Water issued a statement yesterday evening and said its team is on-site and working to repair the road.

"We are aware of a burst in the BD5 area, which has temporarily closed three lanes East bound of the carriageway on Rooley Lane," said the statement.

"We know how inconvenient an issue like this can be - our team is on-site working as quickly as possible to repair the road.

"Please be aware there is a diversion in place during these repairs."
