BRADFORD stood together on Armed Forces Day yesterday in recognition of those, past and present, who have served the country.

The event included a Drumhead Service, led by the Revd Canon Paul Maybury and attended by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Martin Love and other dignitaries.

Family activities were held in Norfolk Gardens and exhibitors from across the district were on hand to provide information and showcase those who work to preserve the memory of people who have served in the armed forces.

Bradford Council leader Susan Hinchcliffe, who was in attendance at the service, said the district is proud of its strong relationship with the armed forces and added: “It is great that this year we will be able to get together in person and show our thanks for all that they do for us.”

The Lord Mayor added: “It is really important that we honour the sacrifices that continue to be made on our behalf by members of our armed forces and their families.”

Armed Forces Week began last Monday in Bradford with a flag-raising ceremony in Centenary Square and flags from the Royal Navy, Army, the Royal Air Forces, as well as the armed forces flag, have been flying for the week.

Bradford Council said: "Thank you to everyone who joined the Armed Forces Day commemoration at Norfolk Gardens today.

"It was wonderful to mark the day in the memorial garden with so many people from the community."
