A Bradford pub has raised thousands of pounds to send a fully-equipped ambulance to the front line in Ukraine.

The Halfway House in Birkenshaw held a ‘drink for Ukraine’ event earlier this month, where a percentage of drinks profits went towards the fundraising efforts.

In total, the pub raised almost £2,000, which was presented as a cheque to the Leeds Ukrainian society today.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

Carl Seed, marketing manager, said: “What we’re trying to raise enough money to send an ambulance that’s been fully kitted out to send to the front line in Ukraine.

“Leeds Ukrainian Society has already purchased one after someone gave a generous donation, but we wanted to find out how we could help and they said they wanted to try to send three over there.”

The first ambulance is being sent over to Ukraine the coming weeks, equipped with two defibrallators, a maternity kit and burns equipment.

“We’ve seen it all in the media and as a company, we thought it’s not right what’s happened. They need as much help as possible,” Carl added.

The pub group Hilltop Taverns, which manages The Halfway House, will be holding other events for Ukraine at it's other venues in the coming weeks.

Olga Callaghan, chairman of the Leeds Ukrainian society said: "

Batley and Spen MP, Kim Leadbeater paid tribute to the cause on social media after attending the event at the pub.

Heineken, Ossett Brewery, Leeds Brewery & Roosters Brewery also helped out by sponsoring the event.
