A FARMING and haulage firm, T.Wilson & Sons (Farmers) Ltd, has appointed a Bradford administrator following a year-long battle to survive the financial effects of the pandemic.
The directors of the business, based at Maggots Nook Farm, St Helens, called in turn-around and recovery specialists, Rushtons Insolvency Ltd, following two years of difficult trading.
Nicola Baker of Saltaire-based Rushtons was appointed as administrator on June 14.
The 1,800-acre farming division grew vegetables and salad produce for customers including Aldi, Booths and Hello Fresh.
The haulage division had a fleet of 25 trucks and 40 trailers.
Despite a sale of the profitable haulage division to Len Wright Salads in May that safeguarded 42 jobs, the directors were unable to secure the farm's future.
On April 29, the farming division ceased to trade, with the loss of 35 jobs, leaving directors no option but to place the company into administration.
“The last few years have seen an unprecedented squeeze on many farms and aspects of food-producing businesses, and, sadly, despite the strongly performing specialist haulage business, it was not possible for the company to keep trading as it was in the current economic climate,” said Ms Baker, who appointed Eddisons Commercial to auction the remaining assets.
