HAMMONDS Band presents a brass concert called The Best of British this weekend.
The concert, conducted by Morgan Griffiths, is at Batley Town Hall tomorrow from 7.15pm to 9.30pm.
As one of the country’s premier brass bands, Hammonds Band has performed in venues throughout the UK, Europe and the world.
Founded in 1855 as the Saltaire Band by Sir Titus Salt, as one of the amenities for his mill-workers, the band had a long association with Hammonds Sauce Works under the baton of Geoffrey Whitham.
It is from these two parts of the band’s past that it now performs under its current name, Hammonds Band, under the direction of Morgan Griffiths.
* Tickets for tomorrow’s concert are available at tickets.kirklees.gov.uk or by calling (01484) 225755.
