A POPULAR Bradford pub has had a make-over and been taken on by a new owner in time for summer.

The Horse and Groom in Wibsey re-opened yesterday after being shut for around two weeks for a refurbishment to take place.

The pub, which is a firm favourite with locals has just been taken on by a new landlady, Debi Williamson, as well as becoming part of The Stonegate Pub group.

Debi, who is from Bradford herself, said: “It’s absolutely amazing inside, we’ve ripped out the bar and put a new bar, there are new carpets in, there are TVs all around. They’ve put new seating in.

“The outside space around the back is amazing, they’ve put a wooden canopy and a smoking shelter, there’s a huge TV, and fake grass out there too.”

“And we’ve painted all the front of the building and put a new sign up at the front. They’ve done absolutely loads.”

As well as the interior and exterior changes, a games room has also been implemented with a darts board, pool tables and new flooring.

The pub strives to be affordable for its local community and will offer a host of drinks deals, including three bottles of WKD for £5, a selection of beers for 2 for £5 and deals on shots too.

Debi said she has worked in pubs for many years, but after a health battle, she had to have a break for a few years. But she’s “so excited to get back.”

“I used to work for a Samuel Smiths Brewery and I have done release at a couple of pubs but then, unfortunately, I had to take a break so I’ve just been doing bar jobs so this is a totally new venture for me.”

“It’s a little bit nerve-wracking but I’m really looking forward to it. It’s a totally new chapter of my life and I’m so lucky to be able to work in such a beautiful pub.”

“I’m absolutely over the moon to take this on and I’m sure I’ll be able to do them proud,” Debi said.
The pub will also be hosting nights with entertainment, and children are welcome during the day.

The pub is a wet-led pub only at the moment, so it will not serve food.

It will be open everyday day of the week from 11 am.

The pub is located at 78 Beacon Rd, Wibsey, Bradford BD6 3EU.
