A HUDDERSFIELD man has been jailed for 10 years, which includes one year on licence, after being found guilty of multiple sexual assaults against a child.

Mark Nilsson was jailed at Leeds Crown Court today for 11 sexual offences committed against a female child victim.

The offending was reported to police in 2020.

Nilsson was arrested the day after the report was made with the report subject to a full investigation by the Kirklees Child Safeguarding Team.

The 49-year-old will now be required to sign on the Child Sex Offenders Register after his release from prison.

DC Gilly Hodds, of the Kirklees SGU, said: “Nilsson richly deserves the sentence imposed by the court today for repeat sexual offending.

“He chose to inflict these awful offences on her and then selfishly chose to put her family through the ordeal of a trial in an attempt to escape justice for what he had done.

“I hope seeing him convicted of this string of offending will be of some comfort to the victim and her family and I want to commend them for their bravery in coming forward."
