A BRADFORD MP chaired an event on how the pandemic impacted ethnic minority communities.

Naz Shah, Labour MP for Bradford West, chaired as Co-POWeR launched its policy recommendations at Westminster earlier this week.

It was co-hosted by the Women’s Budget Group and the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Race and Community, as attendees heard the details from Co-POWeR’s 16 months of work with academics and community groups.

The event was also attended by Anneliese Dodds MP, Chair of the Labour Party, who expressed her support for the research.

Naz Shah MP said: "I want to thank Co-POWeR and all those who partnered in putting together this report. Documenting the lived experiences of ‘BAME’ people during the pandemic is hugely important, especially due to the disproportionate impact Covid had on their lives.

"Early signs of the pandemic showed ‘BAME’ communities were not only disproportionately dying from the pandemic, but also 54 per cent more likely to be fined under Covid rules."
