A WOMAN breached a non molestation order by sending her ex-partner several messages, heard Skipton Magistrates Court.

Emma Wright, 40, of Carleton Road, Skipton, sent six text messages on May 6 despite a non molestation order being made by Skipton Family Law on April 28, the court heard today (Friday).

The messages included asking her ex-partner to 'put the kettle on' and 'not to be nasty to her', and there was also a missed phone call, the court was told.

On May 9, Wright tried again to contact the woman by messaging her on Facebook, and was blocked.

Prosecuting, Nadine Clough, said they were clear breaches of the non molestation order that banned Wright from approaching or contacting her ex-partner in any way for two years until April, 2024.

The breaches were aggravated, said Ms Clough, because of the short time that had passed since the order had been made.

The victim of the breaches had suffered 'overwhelming distress' at the attempt to contact her and had believed the order would have stopped the contact, said Ms Clough.

Wright, who admitted the breaches, was very contrite and had accepted the relationship was at an end, the court heard.

In mitigation, Keith Blackwell, said the breakup of a relationship often lead to unexpected trauma.

He said Wright had wrongly thought that the order needed to be affirmed at a hearing, after she had tried to make contact, on May 11.

He said she now accepted she had got it wrong, that the relationship was at an end and would not attempt to contact her ex-partner again.

Magistrates told Wright it was a serious matter and adjourned sentencing for an all options report. The next hearing will be at Harrogate Magistrates Court on July 15.
