A BRADFORD woman who has a history of repeatedly wasting police time by calling them out under false pretences has been jailed for eight months.

Sophie Birkett, 27, of Cobden Street, Allerton, was made subject to a criminal behaviour order in 2017.

Earlier this week, she was caught calling the emergency services without genuine need from the bus station in Wakefield – which she was banned from doing by the order.

Appearing at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on June 15, Birkett admitted breaching the criminal behaviour order.

She was also convicted of breaching a community order which was only imposed the day before the Wakefield incident, for similar breaches of the criminal behaviour order in February.

The community order was revoked and she was resentenced for the original offence.

In total Birkett was jailed for eight months and must also pay £128 as a surcharge towards victim services.

In sentencing, magistrates said the defendant had a flagrant disregard for court orders and the latest order was breached the day after being in court.

They added that the offence was so serious because it impacted upon the police, who are being taken away from carrying out other duties when having to respond to the defendant’s calls.
