JURY members and family watched CCTV of a horrifying fast-paced foot chase as Kian Tordoff ran for his life until the tragic moment he tripped and was stabbed to death.

Six males are on trial at Bradford Crown Court for the alleged murder of the 19-year-old on October 10 last year, in John Street.

All six are also charged with the attempted murder of Matthew Page – who is also known as Matthew Lowther.

Arbaz Khan, 22, Aizaz Khan, 27, both of Yew Tree Avenue in the Daisy Hill area, Amaad Shakiel, 20, of Leaventhorpe Lane, Adam Qayum, 23, of Avenel Road in the Allerton area, Mohammed Adil Hussain, 18, of Kite Mews in the Lower Grange area, and a 17-year-old who cannot be named due to his age, all deny murder and attempted murder.

The 17-year-old, who was 16 at the time, has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Mr Tordoff on “diminished responsibility” on account of his mental health at the time and also pleaded guilty to wounding with intent in relation to Mr Lowther.

The prosecution, led by Mr Mark McKone QC, continued its close inspection of CCTV footage from that tragic night yesterday, with the help of Police Constable Richard Brook, who coordinated the clips.

Monday’s focus had been on the first incident of the earlier hours – a large-scale brawl which centred on Arbaz Khan and another male nicknamed 'Chaser', according to several eyewitnesses, and also involved Mr Shakiel, Mr Qayum, Mr Hussain, Mr Tordoff and Mr Lowther.

This moved to the second incident where the stabbings occurred, around half-an-hour later at the top-of-town.

Members of the jury were shown a number of compilations, comprised mainly of the same clips, but with different markers to indicate each individual’s involvement.

It is a scene of chaos and panic as a white BMW X5 pulls up on Upper Piccadilly at 5.44am, just past its junction with North Parade and Darley Street, and four men are said to get out.

These men are the 17-year-old, Arbaz Khan, Mr Qayum and Mr Hussain, according to the prosecution.

In one compilation, Mr Tordoff can be seen right next to the car containing the men when it turns up.

A frantic chase immediately ensues with the person the prosecution say is the 17-year-old in pursuit of Mr Tordoff.

Mr Tordoff is followed closely behind through Rawson Square and onto John Street until he appears to trip.

PC Brook said: “You see Kian fall to the floor there, the 17-year-old is above Kian.”

That is, just eight seconds after the chase started, Mr Tordoff is caught and fatally stabbed, the prosecution says.

The CCTV seemingly shows the 17-year-old raining a number of blows down upon Mr Tordoff, using both arms.

The teenager has already admitted to bringing two knives to the scene and inflicting the fatal wound on Mr Tordoff and the life-threatening wound on Mr Lowther, according to the prosecution.

Mr Tordoff gets up from the ground and runs after the 17-year-old, who has already fled the area.

The next CCTV clip shows the teenager being chased by Mr Tordoff, just outside the Go Local Extra store on Rawson Square.

Moments later, footage from a camera at The Silver Fox Bar catch the point when Mr Tordoff realises he was been slashed in the neck and collapses near two benches.

There was clear emotion in the public gallery at this point.

A large number of people swarm round Mr Tordoff to try to help him, while Mr Lowther is also dealing with the shock of discovering he has also been stabbed – once across the stomach and another wound to his upper body.

Just before this, on the same camera, the prosecution say this is the moment Mr Lowther is stabbed by the 17-year-old.

PC Brook said: “Silver Fox bar, we’ll see Matthew in the road, coming together with the 17-year-old and he stumbles to the floor there, Kian falls onto the floor, Matthew now comes into footage where he pulls his jumper up.”

The court heard Mr Lowther had just run across in front of Arbaz Khan, who chased Cameron Wright and was over the top of her with an “implement in his right hand” until someone shouted “she’s a girl”, before his altercation with the 17-year-old.

The 17-year-old then disappears onto Upper Piccadilly before getting into the BMW X5 on Piccadilly with the five other defendants.

At two points the footage of this zooms in on something the teenager is carrying in his hand, which looks to be long and metallic.

The trial continues.
