A MAN has been forced to pay over £1,000 after he was found guilty of displaying racially and religiously aggravated behaviour while drunk in Bradford city centre.

Stephen Drake, of Flower Bank in Bradford, committed the offence on John Street last November.

The 40-year-old faced two charges when his case was heard at Bradford Magistrates Court on Wednesday, June 1.

On November 7, Drake behaved disorderly which caused distress to those nearby in a public place.

The offence was racially aggravated within the terms of section 28 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.

This was contrary to Section 31(1)(c) and (5) of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.

On December 13, 2021, he pleaded not guilty to the crime, which was also religiously aggravated.

His fine was uplifted from £220 to £440 due to it being a racially aggravated offence.

Drake also has to pay £620 in court costs and a £44 victim surcharge.

The £1,104 total has to be paid by the end of the month.

Drake admitted to being drunk and disorderly in a public place on the same day. This carried no separate penalty.
