A MALE walker collapsed and died as he climbed Ingleborough on Saturday.

The 60 year old was climbing the Yorkshire Three Peaks when he collapsed at the summit of Ingleborough with a suspected cardiac arrest at just before 5pm on Saturday.

He was part of a group that had walked to the peak - the second highest of the three - from Chapel-le-dale.

A spokesperson for the Clapham based Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO) said: "Members of his own group administered CPR until paramedics arrived by North West Air Ambulance.

"CRO members were ascending from Fell Lane, Ingleton as the air ambulance flew in, but some were withdrawn when, after the best efforts of the paramedics, they recognised that they could do no more for him.

"The deceased male was flown down to Ingleton for transportation to Harrogate."
