A STRAY tortoise has been found next to a busy Bradford road.

Now a local veterinary practice is appealing for help in tracing the pet’s owner.

Gatehouse Veterinary Group in Allerton posted about the animal on its Facebook page calling for anyone who might have information to get in contact.

The tortoise was found on the pavement next to Girlington Road on Wednesday afternoon and was taken to the clinic as a stray.

While settling into its temporary home the pet has been munching on fruit and vegetables as well as tortoise feed.

The clinic explained how the person who found the tortoise had monitored it for a couple of hours first before taking the decision to contact them to ensure the animal was kept safe.

They are hoping that its owner will come forward to claim it.

One person who responded to the post on social media said: “They’re such good escape artists, I swear. They need microchips like cats get.”

Another suggested it might a tortoise that had already been reported missing in the BD2 area, but it appears not to be a match.

Anyone with information is asked to call the clinic on 01274 480031.
