RESIDENTS of a Bradford district street are celebrating after scooping a share of a £210,000 lottery jackpot.

A total of seven households in a Wilsden street have won £30,000 each after becoming the latest winners in the People’s Postcode Lottery.

The residents, who share the postcode BD15 0LN, have spoken about how they plan to spend their individual windfalls.

Great-grandfather Glyn Walters, 77, was joined by Kath, his wife of 55 years, when he found out he had won. They plan to spend it on a family reunion.

He said: “I want to go and see my brother’s family in the West Indies.

“My brother and his wife have passed away but we’d like to go and see where they were in the West Indies. They had six children and we’ve not seen them for more than 50 years.

“We couldn’t have gone without this but thanks to Postcode Lottery we can do it now.

“I’m just over the moon. I could cry to be honest with you.”

Meanwhile, primary school teacher Alisha Smith also won and plans to spend some of the money on a honeymoon.

She said: “Oh my God - you never think anything big like this will happen down a little lane in Wilsden.

 

“I just got married to my husband Luke in December so now we can go on a honeymoon!

“I’d love to go to the Maldives. We’ve been putting all our money into the house so this puts us in a really good position now.”

Her neighbour, grandmother-of-five Lillian Knight, 81, who has lived at the postcode for 59 years, said: “I feel as if I’m on air at the moment. I don’t know when I’ll come back down to earth.

“I never win anything, so it’s a very big surprise.”

“I’m thinking about the grandchildren, I’ll see them alright.

“I think I’ll just enjoy it and have a bit of a party. It’ll be nice to relax – we’ve all had a bit of a grim time the last two years with Covid.”

Peter Abberton, 65, a retired physics and maths teacher, was joined by Katherine - his wife of 32 years - when he received his cheque.

He said: “I think we’ll celebrate with a curry from Wilsden Balti – the local curry house.”

The pair also plan to travel to the USA with the cash and visit Katherine’s hometown in Pennsylvania.

The other winners chose to remain anonymous but their prize will be paid to their bank account.
