BRIGHOUSE & Rastrick Band’s players and officials gave a warm welcome back to one of their former conductors, Ian McElligott, last month.

Mr McElligot has already fulfilled four engagements as their new resident musical director.

Such has been the band’s busy spell around the UK that it will already be his sixth outing with the band before appearing before a West Yorkshire audience.

His appearance will be in the familiar surroundings of Brighouse Central Methodist Church in a free event on the evening of Saturday, July 2.

As all interested patrons have claimed their free places the remaining tickets are available by ringing 01484 718835 or calling at Ryecorn Wholefoods, Bethel Street, Brighouse.

Mr McElligott served for almost 30 years with the Band of the Coldstream Guards after leaving his North Yorkshire home aged 18.

Joining as a trumpet player, he rose through the ranks to conclude his service as Director of Music.

His first spell with B & R came shortly after, in 2002, but he remained resident in the South and continued his conducting career with Sandhurst Silver Band until relocating to York.

From 2016 he has enjoyed a spell with Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band before accepting the opportunity to return to Brighouse.
