A Tik-Tok star who recently jetted off on her holidays from Leeds Bradford Airport has spoken about her experience getting through security.

Katylee Bailey, from Bradford, embarked on a trip with her partner, Grace to Ibiza last week, but said it took more than four hours to get through security.

“When we were flying out, we arrived there about four hours before the flight.

“Check-in was completely fine, we got through with Jet2 in about 10 minutes, but when we got to security we were there absolutely hours.

“Jet2 were really good, they were shouting at us to make sure we could get to the front so we didn’t miss our flight, but it was really busy.”

Leeds Bradford Airport recently issued a statement to say that the issues are part of an industry-wide problem caused by the speed of withdrawal of travel restrictions and testing which has led to the rapid recovery of international travel.

Airports across the country are being impacted by lead times to recruit and train additional staff.

Katylee added: “When you got through security you could tell that people have been in a rush to get through and just straight onto their flight because the duty-free shops and shopping areas were completely dead.”

“Some people were a bit panicky but we tried to let people in front of us who have kids that were crying to try and calm them down a bit.”

Katy-Lee praised the airport staff and Jet2 for the way they handled the situation.

“I think because of how good the airport was being, they were constantly reassuring you, it made it fine, but it is a bit scary that you think you might not make your flight.”

Katylee compared her experience at LBA to her time spent at Manchester Airport a few weeks ago and said at Manchester she was through security in 20 minutes, and it was a “breeze” but it all depends on timing.

On her way back to the UK, she said her airport experience at LBA “was perfect.”

“It didn’t take long to get the luggage at all and we were out in about half an hour,” she said.

Going forwards, she hopes the situation improves for when she goes away with her nan who is diabetic, to make sure she can sit down and have access to food whilst she waits to fly.

In a recent update, LBA said that All staff required for the airport to operate at full capacity have now been recruited, however, we are still awaiting full Home Office approval across all positions, following extensive referencing and accreditation checks. More staff are being released into operation from training each week.
