SIGNPOSTS to draw attention to Bradford’s waterways have started appearing around the district.
The Friends of Bradford Beck group has been working hard to add signage around Bradford Beck and its tributaries to raise awareness and understanding of the watercourses.
Trustee of The Aire River Trust Wendy Robinson said: “On behalf of friends of Bradford Beck, and with a little bit of help from the co-op who gave us some funding, we’ve put up around 30 different signs.
“It's taken around four years because of Covid. Some are marking footpaths, some are telling our aspirations for the beck and bio-diversity, and others are just conventional green signs to mark the watercourses.
“It’s all about raising local people’s awareness, and if you give something a name, it elevates it and we want people to be knowledgeable and respect their environment.”
As well as naming the waterways, the group has also provided signage for people to follow particular trails and walks around the area.
The website states that these are 'easy to achieve projects' with relatively modest costs but are important in changing attitudes as better signage encourages more care, less litter and better reporting of problems.
